Virgin of the milk

Anonymous
Temple sobre sarga pegada a tabla

The scene depicted takes place in an interior, in which the Virgin shows her breast to the Child who, seated on a cushion, turns his back to her and embraces the cross held from above by an angel. The landscape background appears through a side window, with a very slanted perspective. Both by the composition and by how the details of the characters are resolved, it can be inferred that we are dealing with a work by a painter who would not be directly familiar with the work of Roger van der Weyden.
