The Foundation
Rodr\u00edguez Acosta<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The Rodriguez-Acosta Foundation, an organization attached to the Department of Culture and Historical Heritage, was created in 1941 by testamentary legacy of the painter Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Rodr\u00edguez-Acosta.
 
Its headquarters   is located in the carmen built by the founder between 1916 and 1930, next to Torres Bermejas and near the monumental complex of the Alhambra. In addition to its unique building and gardens, it has a building that houses the G\u00f3mez-Moreno Museum with warehouses, offices and other facilities.
 
The Foundation’s primary mission is to promote all types of scientific research and to promote and encourage culture.
 
Its activity   is developed according to the objective set by the founding statutes, which is to “keep Granada abreast of all the knowledge of human progress, serving as a stimulus to people of high spirit”. 
 
The primary object is the promotion and diffusion of the Culture in its most diverse branches and aspects, without limits of any kind and according to the criteria that in every moment establishes its governing body . This is made up of a Board of Trustees, in its beginnings integrated by nine members chosen for their outstanding personality in thought and culture, such as Jos\u00e9 Ortega y Gasset, Fernando de los R\u00edos and Manuel de Falla, among others, who were part of the first Board of Trustees. Among its collections are the Museum, Bibliographic and Documentary collections of Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Rodr\u00edguez-Acosta and Manuel G\u00f3mez-Moreno Mart\u00ednez. In addition to donations such as those of Manuel Maldonado and Mart\u00ednez Rioboo.
 
Among the distinctions received by the Foundation in recognition of its work in favor of culture are the award in 1969 of the Medal of Honor of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, the Medal of Merit in Fine Arts of the Spanish Ministry of Culture in 1982 and the Gold Medal of the City of Granada in 1996.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n
